What music should I be practicing? Look here .

Friday, July 18, 2008

Sorry, late again. But the selections we will play are pretty much the same as what we've played for the 4th of July Gig. The songs that we will play are up on the "What Music Should I be Practicing" page.

Also, I've posted the "Central Park" Job on the following Thursday (The one with the major "Band Pizza Party at Davanni's" afterwards), so you can get a head start on that performance as well. By "A head start", I of course mean "TO PRACTICE". We practice in order to perform. Practice, practice, practice, practice! Even if it is only for a 15 minute shot to review... Leave your instument set up in one place in your house, and every time you come across that place, your instrument will be calling you by saying, "Hey!!! Come practice me!! Come Practice Me!!!! You 'gotta do it. Beleive me, you will sound better, and that makes us, in turn, sound better!!! That's a good thing!!!!

Alright! I'll see you on Monday. It'll be a very fun performance. This, as most of you know, is a very good gig. It's a real beautiful place to perform. We will of course have one van and a truck, so if anyone needs a ride, join us at the firehall at 5:50, with a departure time of 6:00 p.m. I will see the flute section at 5:40 p.m.!

Later!
Your RCBD,
Dan

Sorry ladies and gentleman:

I am far too tired to even press down any keys much less think about the biggest concert (besides the 4th of July and our spring concert) of the year.

So I will get to it tomorrow night.

Good night all......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The new list for Minnehaha Park is up on the "Practice" page.

I haven't gotten permission from the Band Council to get a bus, so unfortunately, for Minnehaha, we have to either jump on the van, or carpool. We will meet at the Roseville Firehall, our home, at 5:30, and depart at 5:50. So I will see the basses, baritones, and trombones at 5:10 and the rest of you who need a ride at 5:30. We'll get loaded at 5:30, and leave approximately 20 minutes later.

See you very soon... Looking forward to it! I feel as if it has been forever since I've seen you...

Your RCBD,
Dan

What a blast tonight was!!! It was fun and everyone played well. Two things that I really have to comment on are the Way that we performed "El Capitan", and the way that Bob played the oboe solo on "The Shadow of your smile". First of all, was the way that we performed "El Capitan". It was terrific! The way that we played that piece was just beautiful with the way the acoustics were in the room, the balance, intonation, articulations, everything was right there. Every once in a while, you guys just pull everything together with the room and the surroundings to make it a truly remarkable moment. Also, Bob did a gorgeous job with his solo on "The Shadow of your smile". Bob it was just a beauty of a job playing that solo. It could be your new read -- but I don't think so. Anyway, it was just gorgeous! Way to be Bob. I and some other people were talking about the concert afterwards and these are the things that we noticed about it. There were many other things, but these things were the things that I needed to emphasize.

Now, for the fourth: Let's practice, practice, and more practice, and then practice with a metronome, practice with a metronome, practice with a metronome. I'm serious. Put extra time in for this week so that we have a good performance this Friday.

Here are the songs to practice:

The Stars and Stripes Forever
El Capitan
Minnesota Hail to thee
Armed Forces Salute
First Suite for Band 3rd, 4th movements
Rushmore***
Bugler's Dream
All Sports March***
Cartoon Symphony
Big Band Polka
Serenade for a picket fence
Schubert Dance Suite***
The Shadow of your Smile
Semper Fidelis
The Star Spangled Banner

Alright! I'll see you all on Friday at 8:20-8:30 p.m., and the clarinets at 7:30 p.m.

See you then
Your RCBD,
Dan
